Telephone communication

This module helps you to successfully make and answer telephone calls as well as take and leave messages. The reading activity discusses the importance of telephone etiquette in the era of ubiquitous cell phones. Practise reading comprehension strategies and skills and take a note of any words and expressions you are unfamiliar with. Two listening comprehension activities present telephone calls and focus on the typical operations they involve. As you practise your listening comprehension skills, take a note of the words and expressions that are used by the speakers to begin and end a phone call, to put someone on hold or transfer a person. The grammar component of this module reviews first and second conditionals, which help you express hypothetical events or plans. Mastering these two types of conditional helps you to express and understand the degree of likeliness of information and events conveyed. Finally, you will review and practise essential telephone expressions.
